Origin Story
It was 1978 in Patna, Bihar. A young woman walked into St. Michael’s High School to teach her first class. At first, all she could see were boisterous boys. “I have never taught before. How am I ever going to control a class?” she worried. She wondered if she should become a teacher at all.
The Principal, Father Harland, a Jesuit priest, knew this young woman would make an excellent teacher. “Don’t worry, you can do this. Remember, teaching is simply about keeping students happy,” he said and sent her off to class.
‘Happy’. One word that made all the difference. The teacher, Ms Gowri Ishwaran, found her calling in creating classrooms that inspired, encouraged and fulfilled every student. Beyond academic accolades and extracurricular achievements, St. Michael’s excelled in creating happy students who went on to become dreamers and doers.
Forty-odd years later, three ‘boisterous’ boys from Ms Ishwaran’s first class have come together to create another happy school—Delhi Public School Gurugram. What’s more, the boys—Pramath Raj Sinha, Amit Prakash and Nikesh Sinha—have with them their beloved teacher as a mentor for the school.
While Pramath and Amit have built successful educational institutions, Nikesh brings with him strong strategic acumen. Thus the trio’s vision for creating a campus of excellence that would nurture the Whole Child became a reality.
DPS Gurugram is a forward-thinking, future-ready school that strives to create happy students, just like Father Harland’s counsel all those years back.
Principal’s Note
Delhi Public School Gurugram is beginning a journey of creating a child-centric environment where we focus on the holistic development of our children. Our Whole Child Approach believes that every aspect of a child’s growth receives equal attention – academic, emotional, physical, social and spiritual. This journey of nurturing the Whole Child is incomplete without the support of our community. For us, each child is unique, with their individual talents and potential, which we aim to encourage at every stage through our community of learning leaders, teachers, parents and staff. We believe in partnering parents and guardians to help our children become the best versions of themselves. Our teachers, too, are learning teachers, not learned teachers— continuously growing along with the children and the school. We welcome all parents into our learning community.
With our unique learning approach and your guidance, I am confident that our children will become confident, creative and compassionate leaders who are ready for a global environment and will contribute to our larger society.
